With age, the muscles around the eyelids naturally weaken and sag. This area fills with more fat above and below the eyelids. For some people, sagging eyelids may lead to hindered vision, and others may look old and tired. Blepharoplasty removes the excess tissues and fat hindering your vision and makes your eyelids look firm, taut, and youthful.
Are your eyelids puffy, drooping, or sagging?
The gradual loss of collagen and muscle strength leads to puffy eyelids, sagging skin, drooping tissues, and obscured vision. Eyelid surgery can address all of these concerns. However, eyelid surgery won’t fix wrinkled eyebrows or lift the structure of your whole face. If you want to combine your eyelid surgery in Novi with a brow lift or facelift, please talk to Dr. Khan.
What is eyelid surgery?
Eyelids may appear droopy due to excess skin, fat, or weakened muscle. An eyelid surgery, also known as blepharoplasty, is a surgery to tighten or fix the appearance of drooping eyelids. The surgeon makes strategic incisions to trim away excess skin tissues, remove unwanted fat deposits, and tighten the eyelid muscles. It can be done on the upper, lower, or both eyelids.
Am I a suitable candidate for eyelid surgery?
You might be a suitable candidate for eyelid surgery if your eyes look tired, gaunt, or puffy or if your eyelids obstruct your vision. Generally speaking, patients who are in good general health and have realistic expectations are considered good candidates for eyelid surgery. Dr. Khan will evaluate your candidacy after a thorough consultation.

Your personalized eyelid surgery journey in Michigan
Consultation
Your eyelid surgery in Novi journey starts with a thorough consultation with Dr. Khan. He will evaluate your eyelids, discuss your goals, review your medical history, and curate a personalized treatment plan. Ask lots of questions and pay attention to the answers. You must receive qualified medical advice about any plastic surgery procedure.
Surgery
For the upper eyelid procedure, Dr. Khan will make an incision in the crease of the eye. He will then remove any unwanted fat tissues or muscles. If necessary, he can also tighten the muscles to stop them from drooping, making your eyelids look more youthful and firm. He will then close the incision with small, close sutures.
For the lower eyelid procedure, Dr. Khan will make an incision right below the lashes or inside the eyelid (the transconjunctival approach). The latter is less invasive, allowing the doctor to remove or add fat below the eye. But if tissue removal is necessary, Dr. Khan will make an incision below the eye to remove excess skin. He will then close the incision.
Recovery
After the eyelid surgery in Novi, cold compresses should be applied for ten minutes every hour. You should continue to use a cold compress for several days because it will reduce swelling and bruising. The bandages applied to the incision sites will be removed after two to three days.
After the second day, walking and other low-exertion activities are encouraged to help blood circulation. Depending on the speed of your healing, you should be able to resume normal activities within two weeks, following which most of the bruising will dissipate.
Results
An eyelid surgery reverses the signs of aging and improves the contours of your eyelids. After the healing process, you will look more youthful and rested, and your peripheral vision might be improved. However, eyelid surgery doesn’t stop the aging process, so you may again develop droopy eyelids and undereye hollows after a few years.
