As you grow older, the gradual loss of collagen, genetics, weight loss, and other factors can lead to sagging skin underneath the arms. Also known as “bat wings,” sagging underarms can cause self-consciousness and physical discomfort. We offer an arm lift (brachioplasty) to remove excess sagging skin tissues, tone your arms, and remove excess fat deposits.
Tighten and smoothen underarm skin today
The older you get, the harder it becomes to maintain firm, taut, and youthful skin. Exercise and dietary changes can only go so far, and there are no natural means of tightening sagging skin tissues. Our double board-certified plastic surgeon uses cutting-edge techniques to trim away excess skin tissues to make your underarms look firm, contoured, and youthful.
What is an arm lift?
An arm lift, also known as brachioplasty, is a surgical procedure for sagging skin tissues underneath the arms. This procedure involves making strategic incisions under the arms to trim excess skin tissues, remove excess fat deposits, and tighten underlying muscles. An arm lift can reverse the signs of aging and make your arms look more toned and youthful.
Am I a suitable candidate for an arm lift?
Dr. Khan will determine if you’re a suitable candidate for an arm lift after a thorough consultation. He will review your medical history, examine your arms, and determine your candidacy. Generally speaking, patients in good general health with a stable weight and excess skin tissues under the arms are considered good candidates for arm lifts.
Benefits of an arm lift:
- Remove excess sagging skin tissues
- Tighten the underarm region
- Improve the definition and contours of the arms
- Prevent rashes and discomfort from excess skin
- Improve self-esteem and confidence

Consultation
Dr. Khan places a lot of thought into curating your arm lift surgical plan. He carefully evaluates your arms, measures the degree of skin laxity, discusses your goals and concerns, and curates a personalized treatment plan. He aims to ensure safe results while meeting your specific aesthetic requirements. Dr. Khan provides a detailed overview of your preparation, surgery, and recovery before the procedure.
Surgery
Dr. Khan performs arm lifts under general anesthesia to ensure optimal comfort and safety. The pattern of the incision will depend on the degree of skin laxity and your goals. Dr. Khan may use one of the following incisions for an arm lift:
- Minimal Incision: If you have minimal skin laxity, he will make a small incision under your armpit to remove excess skin tissues. The incision will be concealed.
- Inner Arm: If you have moderate to severe skin laxity, he may start the incision at the armpit and extend it down to your elbow along the inner arm, so the incision will only be visible when you raise your arms. This technique allows considerable adjustment.
- Back of Arm: If you have moderate to severe skin laxity, he may start the incision at the armpit and extend it down to your elbow along the back of your arm.
After making an incision, Dr. Khan will remove excess skin tissues and small amounts of excess fat deposits from your upper arms. Depending on the volume of excess fat, the surgeon may also use liposuction to remove fat cells. He may also tighten underlying muscles to make your arms look firm and toned. After completing all the adjustments, Dr. Khan will redrape the skin and close the incisions.
Recovery
Your arms will be covered in bandages immediately after the arm lift. In some cases, drainage tubes might be placed underneath your skin to prevent fluid accumulation and swelling. The complete recovery period may last for 4 to 6 weeks, during which you must avoid raising your arms above your head or engaging in strenuous workouts. But you can resume light activities and work after a week or two.
Results
Your arm will look firmer and tighter after the procedure, but you will truly appreciate the results once the healing process is complete. An arm lift produces permanent results but doesn’t stop the aging process or prevent weight changes. You must maintain a healthy lifestyle and exercise regularly to maintain the results of your surgery.
Compression Stockings
Patients undergoing an Arm Lift are required to wear compression stockings to promote circulation and reduce swelling during recovery.
Please note:
- The stockings must fit securely and must cover the full foot and extend below the knee, offering firm yet comfortable support.
- Patients must purchase their own stockings, as these are not provided by the surgery center.
- Wear the stockings on your travel day and arrive at the surgery center with them already on.
- Compression stockings are widely available online or at local pharmacies.
- If forgotten, your caregiver must obtain a replacement prior to the completion of your procedure.
Thank you for prioritizing this important recovery step.
